Jason Cheng
Non-Executive Director

Mr. Cheng is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Kerogen Capital, a private equity fund manager, and has over 20 years of experience in the energy and financial services industry. Previously he was the Managing Partner of Ancora Capital, a predecessor private equity fund and a Managing Director of Jade International Capital Partners Limited, an investments and advisory firm.

Prior to that, he was a Vice President of JP Morgan Australia where he worked in the Energy and Natural Resources team. He was previously an executive of Schroders Corporate Finance, in the Energy Team in London and the Asian Mergers and Acquisitions team.

Mr. Cheng holds a Master of Commerce Degree (Finance and Management) from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Economics and Econometrics) from the University of Melbourne, Australia

Clayton Clift
Non-Executive Director

Mr. Clift is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Mr. Clift was Chief Financial Officer of Buried Hill Energy from September 2007 to June 2011 when he retired. He is currently a private investor.

Prior to Buried Hill Mr. Clift was Senior Vice President Finance & CFO for PetroKazakhstan Inc. (listed on NYSE, LSE and TSX), Finance Manager and Deputy GM for Wintershall AG’s Libyan operations and Vice President and CFO for Wintershall Canada. Previous to joining Wintershall, Mr. Clift was with Deloitte and Touche Chartered Accountants.

Josef Hocher
Senior Non-Executive Director

Mr. Hocher was one of the founders of Buried Hill Energy and has over 20 years of experience in the global oil and gas and energy industries.

He is a partner in Cassels Brock’s Business Law Group in Calgary. Previously, Mr Hocher has been a Partner at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP and was also a partner at Bennett Jones LLP.

Mr. Hocher serves as Chairman of Orthoshop Geomatics Ltd., a geomatics services company that provides customized geospacial solutions. He also holds the position of Chief Commercial Officer at Field Upgrading Limited and Western Hydrogen Limited, technology companies using molten sodium to upgrade heavy oil and manufacture hydrogen, respectively.

In 2011, Mr. Hocher established Hitic Energy Ltd. in Alberta, Canada, on behalf of the Jereh Group headquartered in Yantai, China. As one of the founders of Hitic, he had a senior leadership role in the successful expansion of its upstream oil and gas business, including business development and formulating and implementing overall company strategy. Hitic’s portfolio now includes numerous successful operating projects and is poised for further profitable growth, and Joe continues his leadership position with the company.

He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in commerce and law. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 1995 and was named to Lexpert’s Top 40 Under 40 list in 2002. He is an active member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, the Alberta Bar Association.

Peter Kallos
Executive Chairman

Peter Kallos joined Buried Hill in 2010 as Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining Buried Hill, Peter was Executive Vice President, International and Offshore for Petro-Canada, a position he held for six years. There he led and developed a significant international exploration and production business based in London which grew to account for more than half of Petro-Canada’s worldwide production. Following Petro-Canada’s merger with Suncor Energy in 2009, he remained in the same role for Suncor until the business was relocated to Canada in early 2010.

Preceding his tenure at Petro-Canada and a short period at Shell UK, Peter held roles at Enterprise Oil, Carless Exploration Ltd and Marathon Oil UK. Peter joined Enterprise Oil in 1988 where he held a number of senior management positions including Head of Business Development, CEO Enterprise Italy and General Manager of the UK business. In this role Peter was appointed to Enterprise’s Executive Committee.

He began his career as a Petroleum Engineer having completed an undergraduate degree in Applied Physics at Strathclyde University followed by a postgraduate degree in Petroleum Engineering at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.

Mr. Kallos is the senior independent non-executive director of Cairn Energy PLC, a UK-based international oil and gas exploration and development company listed on the London Stock Exchange. He was also a trustee of the London Chamber Orchestra until 2017.

Yash Kaman
Non-Executive Director

Mr. Kaman is a Partner responsible for Investment and Portfolio Management at Kerogen Capital, with over 20 years’ experience in the energy and financial services industry. Prior to Kerogen, he was Managing Director and Head of Natural Resources Group (Asia Pac) at Deutsche Bank in Hong Kong. Previously, he was the Head of Oil & Gas and Chemicals (Asia) at JP Morgan in Hong Kong. Prior to that he was a credit rating analyst at CRISIL, an affiliate of Standard & Poor’s. Mr. Kaman holds a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad).

Christina Sarris
Non-Executive Director

Mrs. Sarris is a barrister at Law (Gray’s Inn London) and a holder of an LLB and an LLM in International Business Law. Mrs. Sarris joined POLAKIS SARRIS & CO LLC in 2001 as an associate in the Litigation Department, a position which she held until 2006. In 2006 she joined the corporate department and made Partner in 2012. Throughout her years in the corporate department, she gained extensive experience in legal and tax restructuring of high profile international groups engaged in the sectors of Telecommunications, Energy, Aviation, Betting & Gaming, Financing and Pharmaceuticals. Her experience extends to international commercial and corporate litigation, advisory and transactional experience, including mergers acquisitions, group restructuring and shareholders disputes, commercial and corporate fraud, injunctions and insolvency proceedings, as well as banking and finance litigation. She has also represented clients in international arbitration proceedings and acted as an Arbitrator in banking and finance proceedings. Mrs. Sarris is a member of the Cyprus Bar Association, the International Bar Association (IBA), the International Lawyers Group (ILG), and the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA). She is also the author of articles published in business magazines, co-author in legal periodicals and books, and has been a speaker and panelist in several conferences in Cyprus and abroad.
